About Carol Benwell – Women Filmmakers Director
Carol is a talented filmmaker with a diverse background in design, multimedia, editing, writing, and visual arts. Deciding to focus on cinematography two years ago, she has come a long way in a short time. Most recently, Carol was DP/co-editor of a documentary that premiered at the 2010 Phoenix Film Festival called “Life: The Bill Macumber Story,” and her first short film, “The Jar,” was one of the Top 100 in the Doorpost Film Competition in 2009.
Carol has several editing and VFX awards under her belt, including top prize in an MTV-sponsored video competition, a winning animation for Coca-Cola.com, and the Avid “Billy” Award for student editing. Title design continues to be one of her favorite endeavors when she isn’t behind the camera.
Carol is currently heading up the new IFP Phoenix Women Filmmakers group, and working at GoDaddy Productions shooting and editing commercials and web spots. She also makes time to work on larger projects as a camera assistant, pulling focus, hoisting large camera rigs, and changing lenses with more enthusiasm than most people would probably understand.
