LEARN YOUR CRAFT

receive discounted ticket prices. The panel discussions are
usually $10 for members and workshops range in price from $30-$300,
depending on the workshop (again, with discounted member
pricing). Tickets are sold for each workshop separately

sold there.

workshop focusing on Fan Films and Special Effects. In 2007,
the first Producers Lab was held. Members received
significant discounts on these premium workshops. If you have

Screenwriters Group
The IFP/PHX Screenwriters Group strives to provide a creative,
supportive and fun environment for local screenwriters to interact,
learn and develop their craft.
MONTHLY MEETING: Come, meet, and support screenwriters
through this monthly networking meeting. Gain information about
industry contacts, tools of the trade, conferences, and screenplay
competitions. Monthly review of a screenwriters' work. Held the
first Monday of every month from 7-9 pm at the IFP offices: 1700 N
7th Avenue #250, Phoenix, AZ 85007.
WEEKLY TABLE READS: Table reads are every Wednesday night at
Borders Books in Mesa. A table read is a great opportunity to bring
some pages of your work (no more than 10) to have it read aloud by
your fellow members, who then discuss it with you. Having your
script read out loud is a great opportunity to get a feel for the
sound of your dialogue and the overall flow of your script.
Remember, no more than 10 pages, in 12 point Courier preferred.
Please bring eight or more copies to share around. Even if you
don't have any pages, come by to participate! You will learn just
by participating, being involved, and listening to other people's
pages and critiques. And we always want to hear your views on other
members' scripts. Table reads run every Wednesday from 7-9pm.
MONTHLY SCENE CHALLENGE: IFP/PHX Screenwriters Group runs a
monthly scene challenge. Each month new criteria are posted for
this short scene challenge. Criteria can run the gamut from genre
to characters to props and even length. Most entries are limited to
five pages. All entries are judged by their peers and a winner
announced each month. At the end of the year we'll pick the overall
winner from the quarterly finalists. Keep entering, keep voting.
All entries are available online to review. Maybe there's a gem
you'd like to produce. Contact the writer or read the scenes
through the site at http://ifpphx.ning.com/group/screenwriters
Film Library Available (books, videos, magazines)
We have a library in the office filled with trade magazines, books
and films. You can come down to the office during normal
business hours and browse through them and check them out.
Please call first to make sure that the office is staffed.
The library also includes Phoenix Film Festival and International
Horror/Sci-Fi Film Festival selections.
Q&As with Filmmakers after screenings
After all screenings: Cinema Lounges, showcase presentations etc.,
IFP/PHX hosts a Q&A with the filmmakers. During the
Society screenings, a discussion is led by a Phoenix film critic
and often the director or producer is in attendance.
Online forums, Ask the Experts and Filmmakers Library
www.ifp.org is FILLED with
fantastic information about filmmaking. Explore the site.
