Beat the Clock 2008-2009

2008-2009 Film Challenge:

The BEAT THE CLOCK film challenge is a combination of all of our previous challenges. Three separate challenges will be held - Summer (48-Hour), Fall (36-Hour) and Winter (24-Hour) with the Top 5 films from each of these squaring off in the Spring Finals round at at IFP/PHX’s screening at the 2009 Phoenix Film Festival. In addition, one "audience favorite" from each screening will advance to the finals. Certificates, specialty awards and plaques will continue to be awarded. And the grand prize is $1000 to the winner, a free IFP/PHX membership, AUTOMATIC selection to the 2010 Phoenix Film Festival and more.

BEST ACTOR: Jose Rosete from Mitch the Bitch from team DIB Pictures in the 48-Hour Challenge.
BEST ACTRESS: Holly Dell from The After Vows from team Catbrain Film Factory in the 48-Hour Challenge.
BEST ENSEMBLE ACTING: The cast of The Mating Game from team Phoenix Independent Filmmakers Meet-Up Group in the 48-Hour Challenge.
BEST DIRECTOR: Webb Pickersgill for Appetite for Justice from team Bassline Digital in the 48-Hour Challenge.
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Webb Pickersgill for The Guilty from team Bassline Digital in the 36-Hour Challenge.
BEST EDITING: Bob Marquis for Rochambeau from team Sailbear in the 24-Hour Challenge.
BEST WRITING/STORY: Jessica Marquis for Rochambeau from team Sailbear in the 24-Hour Challenge.
AUDIENCE FAVORITE: Following Suit from team Bassline Digital from the 24-Hour Challenge.

The Beat The Clock Short Film Challenge had three preliminary rounds: 48-Hour (July 2008), 36-Hour (November 2008) and 24-Hour (January 2009). From the seventy-one (71) films completed over the year, the top eighteen (18) films screened at the finals round - the Top 5 and audience favorite from each preliminary round. The grand prize winner at the Finals round, as selected by the Phoenix Film Critics Society, won $1000, a free one-year membership to IFP/PHX and became an automatic selection to the 2010 Phoenix Film Festival. IFP Phoenix members voted on the Specialty Awards and those winners were presented with trophies.

Beat the Clock Film Challenge Finals


The Awards Ceremony and Screening will be held Monday, April 6, 2009 7:20 pm at the Harkins/Scottsdale 101 as part of the Phoenix Film Festival.





18 films (6 from the 48-Hour, 6 from the 36-Hour, 6 from the 24-Hour) are competing for BEST FILM, as chosen by the Phoenix Film Critics Society. Films competing are:

The Audience at this screening will also select their favorite film and the winner will be announced at the After-Party at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Specialty Awards will be given out as well. IFP/Phoenix members and Phoenix Film Society members can vote on these through 3/22/09 at 11:45 pm. Check your e-mail for the password. Ballot Trophies will be presented to the winners.

The audience chose their favorite from the remaining films in competition via ballot and picked Sooner or Later's HAPPY LITTLE SECRET as the 6th place wild card film. HAPPY LITTLE SECRET also moves on to the spring finals.
