FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear IFP/PHX members and newsletter subscribers:

Three seemingly unrelated items are in my letter to you this month.  One deals with the state of the state, one is a networking opportunity and one is a benefit for one of our own.  What they all three have in common is that they deal with our “Community.”  Our community continues to grow and flourish and as we add new ways to get connected, folks outside of Phoenix have taken notice.  And even as we grow, we still need to take time out for individuals that need us.

We’ve added a new website to the IFP Phoenix family.  It’s a social networking site that works much like MySpace, but it’s just for IFP Phoenix.  You can create a profile, upload videos and photos, join groups and more.  Check it out and join today at: http://ifpphx.ning.com/.  This is where the Screenwriters Group will now be posting their monthly competition scripts and where you’ll be able to network directly with people to join crews and casts.

As I mentioned, folks outside of Arizona have taken notice of us.  The Hollywood Reporter had a special section: "Arizona is becoming an ideal film and TV location."  For the full article, click here.

And lastly, I am asking for your help. Throughout the years you have seen Laura Durant’s name in this newsletter and her face at numerous events.  She has done a great deal for IFP Phoenix and the film and theatre communities here.  Her husband, Doug, has been quietly battling leukemia for the past three years. After his most recent round of chemotherapy, he developed serious infection and was hospitalized. In spite of insurance, medical expenses continue to mount.

There will be a benefit performance of "1950's Malt Shop Revisited" on May 10 and we ask you to please purchase a ticket and attend and bid on items at the silent auction.  If you are unable to attend, please contact Dustin Leighton, theartistsden@mac.com, to make a donation by check or cash.  If you’d like to send a gift card to Sprouts, Walgreens, WalMart or American Express, you can mail them to: IFP/PHX, Laura and Doug Durant, 1700 N 7th Avenue #250, Phoenix, AZ 85007.  For details about the event and more information, please click here.

Thank you for being a part of this community.

Warm Regards,

Amanda Melby, Executive Director
