FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

A new year is here.  What does that mean to you?  What are the things on your list to accomplish in 2008?  Make more films?  Great!

May I suggest that you start with a 3-minute film and finish it up by January 28?  That is the deadline for the 4 Seasons Short Film Competition Winter Round.  This is the last round that you’ll be able to enter a new film as the Spring round is the top films from the other three rounds.

Get creative!  The genre is open – it can be comedy, action, horror, sci-fi, romance, musical – you get the picture.  The only guideline is that is has to have the theme of Resolutions.  Cash prize is $300 (who couldn’t use that?) and awards will be handed out for acting, directing, writing, technical elements and more.

For the finals round, the Phoenix Film Critics Society will be voting on the films and choosing the “Best Film,” but only IFP Phoenix members will be voting for the Specialty Awards (acting, directing, writing, etc.).  The Best film takes home $1000 (!) and becomes an automatic selection to the 2009 Phoenix and Sedona Film Festival (no additional submission fees and no waiting for the letter of acceptance or rejection!)

In 2008, I hope you make films.  Lots of films.  Creative, experimental, moving films.  Start early.  Don’t wait.  Tell your story in 2008; we want to see it.

Happy New Year!
Amanda Melby, Executive Director

COMMUNITY

Phil Bradstock, City of Phoenix Film Commissioner has issued the following advisory about City resources during the Super Bowl on Feb 3; “Due to the enormity of the Super Bowl, many cities are contributing their resources (such as personnel and facilities) to help make the event a successful one. As a result, filming on City of Phoenix property (streets, parks, government buildings, etc.) will be difficult to accommodate from January 28th thru February 4th.  While the Phoenix Film Office will do everything it can to assist you with your project, productions are encouraged to seek alternative dates or locations for this week. If you wish to film during Super Bowl week in another Valley city, please check with their film liaison as they may be facing the same commitments and restrictions as Phoenix. “
