The Renaissance Screenwriter with Yanni Skiotes

The Renaissance Screenwriter with Yanni Skiotes

On November 17th, the IFP Phoenix Screenwriters Group welcomes the accomplished writer/producer Yanni Skiotes.

In this extremely helpful FREE seminar, Yanni will be covering two highly-requested topics from our group members.  First he’ll be covering the ever-essential screenwriting techniques in Structure, Dialogue, and Exposition.  Additionally, Yanni will be discussing ways to sell your script including licensing rights.  Of course, there are multiples ways of selling your script.  Yanni has sold three scripts, optioned another, and produced/distributed his own documentary, so his experience in this area is truly valuable.

If you’re looking for some essential and solid essentials of screenwriting technique and some awesome real-world tips for ways to sell your script, you won’t want to miss this seminar.

Ioannis “Yanni” Skiotes of Yanni Enterprises, Inc. is an accomplished writer/producer whose 30 projects included 3 sales, 1 option, and 4 scripts for a major studio.  His screenplay and stage play “If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don’t Want to Be Right)”, based on the megahit title song, is capturing the eye of industry pros in both media.  His documentary “Kassiani”, on the remarkable first female hymnographer, is before three time Emmy Award Winning Producer/Director and elite Orthodox Church filmmaker Nick J. About Yanni

Here is what insiders say about Yanni’s writing skills:

“Script is too good not to get produced. So well written it practically directs itself.” - Producer Terry Donnelly (12 Angry Men, The Exorcist, The French Connection)

“The best writer I’ve encountered, except for Robert Towne.  I thought I was the hardest worker in Hollywood, but Yanni’s right up there with me.  His work is meticulous. He’s a perfectionist.”  First AD Benjamin Rosenberg (Ready To Rumble, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon)

“Thank you for sending your script. You are a good writer. The script is very well written.” Producer/Director Hilbert Hakim (Krews)

“You are an extremely talented scriptwriter.” - Producer Marc Bienstock, Mainline Releasing

“Very good script.  I’m going to recommend it for our higher-budget production level.” - Producer Steve Hadju

Selected to the First Annual Sundance Independent Producer’s Conference at Sundance, Utah, Yanni spring boarded that invaluable experience by making Arizona history when producing the music concert film “When Legends Meet” that secured three world distribution deals featuring Latin superstars Secreto, the Godfather of Latin House, and the Latin Grammy Winning El Gran Combo. To secure the artists’ rights from the record label, Yanni negotiated “pen to pen” with the world’s most renown music entertainment attorney, William Krasilovsky (author of the famous “This Business of Music”).

An energetic, inspirational speaker and teacher on the craft of film writing, Yanni has given highly attended seminars for Hamilton and Basha Libraries, PFP/IFP, and Phoenix Writers Club.

In 2005, he conducted a free 12 Session Screenwriting Class for AZ Screenwriters Association using his instructional book “Screenwriting Kept Simple” that had about 30 regulars. Three years later, he held the same successful sessions for City of Phoenix Recreation Programs.

Yanni had the pleasure of working for his mentor at Hollywood Script Analysis from 1990 thru 1996, where he critiqued over one thousand scripts. The method he was taught evaluates the script three times: once for correct format, once for dialogue and exposition, and the final pass for story structure. After each evaluation, the writer makes the improvements and the critique advances to the next phase. A comprehensive process that screenwriters find most worthy.

Here are a few testimonials from Yanni’s students on his teaching abilities:

“Yanni’s simply the best screenwriting teacher I’ve had.  And I read all the books, been to the college film programs, the seminars.”   SM (student)

“I read your book, and used your formula…  It really works!  Tying together structure and character are tough for me.  Your book helped me so much!”  LK (student)

Currently, Yanni is an Adjunct Screenwriting Instructor for the Film Program at Scottsdale Community College. He still offers his script analysis service and his instructional book is available thru Create Space and
