Free Filmmaking Workshops at the Prescott Film Festival

The Prescott Public Library will be hosting several workshops in conjunction with the Prescott Film Festival, which runs from November 2-6.

On Thursday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m., join us in Founders Suite B for a four-hour actors workshop with former Hollywood casting director Clair Sinnett. Sinnett has worked with a diverse roster of talent as well as stars like Keanu Reeves, James Earl Jones, Leonardo DiCaprio, TR Knight and Alyssa Milano. She has been involved with the TV/Film Acting programs for University of California Irvine, South Coast Repository Conservatory, New York’s Playwrights Horizon Theater School, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences Rep Group, and she’s bringing all that talent and knowledge to Prescott to share with our film festival audience!

Then at 6:30 p.m. on November 3, we present an hour long workshop on acting and filmmaking. Join Don Livesay, Screen Actors Guild Arizona Executive Director, for a lively conversation about SAG. Don will explain the basics of SAG, and things independent filmmakers and actors should know about the organization.

Join us on Friday, November 4, from 2-4 pm for “How to Turn a Book into a Film.” Director Lorette Bayle will lead the discussion. Bayles’ latest short film is based on the beloved children’s book, The Bake Shop Ghost and stars Kathryn Joosten (Emmy winner for West Wing and Desperate Housewives) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Academy Award nominee for Secret and Lies).

No Smurfs®, no Care Bears®, no Barbie Dolls®. Independent films have been reaching out to children for several years, and the Prescott Film Festival is excited to share the best of these offerings. The Prescott Public Library and the Friends of the Prescott Public Library have come together with the Prescott Film Festival to present a free day filled with independent childrens films on Saturday, November 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Independent Films for Independent Kids” (IFFIK) is the first annual event of its kind. PFF volunteer Megan Hollingsworth will give out film-related prizes between each film, and introduce each film before it starts. Films range from 1:30 seconds to 60 minutes. Kids 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Prescott Public Library is located at 215 E. Goodwin St. in downtown Prescott. The library serves more than 500,000 residents and visitors a year. All programs are free and open to the public. For more info, call 928-777-1500 or check the online events calendar at www.prescottlibrary.info.
